American Skin (41 Shots) [28 Mar 2012|07:17pm]

I don't know how many people here think to check Bruce's official site regularly, but just in case, there's a terrific video up at the moment of the band doing American Skin (41 Shots) in Florida a few nights ago. It's a must watch.

Clemons' nephew to play sax on Springsteen tour [18 Feb 2012|10:03am]

It takes two men to replace the Big Man.

Bruce Springsteen announced Thursday that two musicians - Jersey Shore sidekick Eddie Manion and Clarence Clemons' nephew Jake - will "share the saxophone role" during the E Street Band's "Wrecking Ball" world tour, which begins March 18 in Atlanta.

'We Take Care Of Our Own': Springsteen's New Wave Of Social Protest [19 Jan 2012|04:02pm]

I don't know that I would've picked up on the slight similarity to the Flock of Seagulls song without it being pointed out in the article below, but the song definitely reminds me of Arcade Fire which, as the article also mentions, makes perfect sense given that they (and Gaslight Anthem) sound like early Springsteen.

From NPR.com:

This is a bitter anthem crafted for a political moment that, for progressives like Springsteen, demands cruel clarity. The way its hook — the seeming don't-tread-on-me sentiment of the title line — plays against other lines like "I been stumbling on good hearts turned to stone/The road of good intentions has gone dry as bone" or "We yelled 'help' but the cavalry stayed home" is pure Boss. Just as he did on "Born In the U.S.A.," "Glory Days" and even 2009's beautiful "Girls In Their Summer Clothes," Springsteen brings out big emotions and then demands we drop the delusions that often accompany them. When he delivers an old line like "from sea to shining sea," his patriotic stance is a spit back in the face of power — a demand that, in hearing such America-first language fresh, we admit that it's hollow unless it serves a real populist vision.

I'm a Springsteen fan with few fellow fans for friends. Does anyone else feel kind of alone in their sorrow about Clarence's passing?

Entrance to a Tubemouse's Lair

These three albums have hung in my hallway since I moved in 6 years ago. Since I heard the news of Clarence Clemons' passing yesterday, I can't walk past this wall without tearing up. (No, you can't actually see Clarence in this photo, but if you're a Springsteen fan, you know who he's leanin' on on that album cover.)

Song question [22 Oct 2010|10:18pm]

I was wondering if anyone knew if Bruce ever released his own version of "Talk To Me"? I have Southside Johnny's but after watching the recent documentary I'd love to hear Bruce sing it.

Any help would be great.
